La Selle

The Tour du Wildhorn is a mountain hike around the Wildhorn mountain. Discover this magnificent four-day-trekking in a grand alpine landscape to the borders of two linguistic and cultural regions of Switzerland, the Valais and canton of Bern.

The chosen route and its variants contain no specific technical difficulties. Only the pass of Audannes is a little bit vertiginous but it is equipped with ladders and with fixed ropes.

The route is feasible during the high season, as soon as the neve fields are melted, by walkers in good conditions, trained enough to digest six-hours of walking a day. The crossing of lapiaz is rather strenuous but rewarding, and asks for a lot of attention, but is not vertiginous. It is advised not to keep alpine poles at hand, but to fix them to the rucksack, so you have free hands.

The Tour of Wildhorn avoids roads and towns and is realized essentially on well marked and maintained hiking trails, at a height between 1400 and 2900 meters above sealevel. Lakes, passes, lapiaz and ridges are distributed all along the route. Magnificent points of view will make you discover the beauty of the Alps, especially by the wonderful view of the Vaudois, Fribourg, Bernese Alps and Pre-Alps as well as the incredible panorama of the Valais Alps up to Mont Blanc.

Except huts and inns quoted in these pages, there is no possibility of taking a snatch on the route and you find not much drinking water. Take the needed precautions. In a good part of this route, you are in high mountain. The conditions can change quickly and we can have snow in high season. Do not presume your strength and have the right equipment.

For your security or to discover better the beauties of the mountain, go with a mountain professional accompagnateur or guide.
